First scene of the game
The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) has asked students of Avans University of Applied Sciences, Communication & Multimedia Design, to conduct research into the development of the Resilient City of the future. The assignment was to create a game that takes place in 2050. We chose the theme Green World.
The game is about Gordon Blue, the butcher of Groenstad, a town where sustainability is a way of life. The game invites players into a world increasingly driven by green, vegan-friendly lifestyles. At the heart of the game is a butcher in a small Dutch town, struggling to survive as meat consumption declines. Players experience firsthand the challenges of running a business in a society where animal agriculture is no longer dominant.
The gameplay centers on managing the butcher’s shop, where players must make critical decisions about inventory, customer relations, and adapting to the evolving market. Players are confronted with ethical dilemmas related to sustainability and must balance profitability with social responsibility. The game provides insight into the growing importance of sustainable food systems.
For this project, I took on the role of interaction designer, which meant ensuring that the transitions between the different scenes ran smoothly and that all interfaces were compatible and responsive. This included objectives and conversations with NPCs, for example.
In addition to interaction design in the Unity program, I also modeled a few objects in Blender.
